Reed Motorsport - 2007 Caterham Superlight Challenge

History. I'm 32 years old living and working on the family farm at Ancroft near Berwick upon Tweed. I started racing school boy motocross at the age of 15 and continued into the adult classes until age 24. I joined the Berwick and district motor club in 2003 and won the karting championship in that year. I then started racing Scottish XR2's in May 2003 and continued until June 2005 when I moved to Caterham Racing and had my debut race at Oulton Park in August 2005 finishing 2nd in class. In 2006 I won the Scottish Sports and Saloon car championship in a Caterham Roadsport A.
Early Days. I’ve always always had a passion for motorsports, cars, bikes basically anything that burns fossils. My father bought my first 50cc bike when I was 10 and I started racing Motocross when I was 15 until until I was 23.
From 2 Wheels to 4 Wheels. Feeling like the urge to be involved in motorsport once again I joined the Berwick and district motor club in 2003 and won the karting championship which was good fun. Walter Curry suggested I started racing, contacted my father, offered his support and car to use.
Starting out XR2 style. I started racing Scottish XR2’s mid season 2003 and soon discovered there was a lot of work and effort required to be successful. After various bumps, breakdowns and one big crash a new engine and better approach was adopted at the beginning of the 2005 season. A comfortable fourth overal in the first race indicted that everything was starting to work for me then the new engine started to loose power and the next results went 7th, 12th, 17th!! Desperate to do the Scottish away round at Oulton Park I called on the expertise of Ian Cowie to cure the incurable XR2. He couldn’t but offered a Caterham Roadsport A to use instead.
Caterhams. After a fantastic weekends racing it was decided the Caterham was the way forward and a deal was done. I continued through the 2005 season using the same Caterham and visited Oulton Park, Knockhill, Croft & Anglesea.
2006 - Scottish Sports and Saloon Car Title. In 2006 I commited to doing every round of the Scottish Sports and Saloons and did just that. Finishing every race, picking points up all the way and the championship title as well. Despite my class being poorly supported, and not being able to score full points, I still had some fantastic races with the likes of Andrew Morrison, Bob Lyons, George Brewster & Peter Frith. I currently hold the fastest lap time for class E at Knockhill which gives me satisfaction to know I’m somewhere near the pace.

Thanks everyone 2006 went well and has gone smoothly thanks to the likes of my parents who have supported me all the way and Ian Cowie and his team who have been helpfully throughout the season. Especially fixing the car after my off at the hair pin!!
